Applications for the SPBS Leeds IMC grant (up to £500) should be submitted by 15 December of the preceding year (i.e. 15 December 2026 for Leeds IMC 2027). Leeds normally sends session acceptances in early December, so applicants can apply once their session has been accepted. The Development Committee aims to confirm its grant decision by February.
Proposals should include:
The Society will also consider proposals from Byzantinists seeking to organise panels jointly with other medievalists. The SPBS could therefore support either a panel focused on Byzantine Studies or panels that integrate Byzantine Studies with another branch of Medieval Studies.
The proposal chosen by the Development Committee can then be submitted by the organisers of the panel in time for consideration at Leeds. Note that at least one of the applicants must be a member of the Society.
Any questions should be addressed to the Chair of the Development Committee.
Note that recipients of SPBS grants are expected to produce a short report outlining the uses to which the grant has been put and the outcome in terms of contribution to the progress of their research, after the completion of the event. These reports will usually be published on our website and/or in the BBBS.
