The SPBS is pleased to announce reduced membership rates for individuals who live, work, and permanently reside in 149 countries which are currently in receipt of support from the Office of Development Assistance.
The reduced membership rates are:
£10.00 per year for full membership
£5.00 per year for student membership
New members will receive the full benefits of SPBS membership and a PDF copy of the annual SPBS Bulletin.
For further information on how to apply, please see our membership page.
The SPBS is pleased to announce that additional funds have been made available to support the attendance of Turkish postgraduate students and early career researchers at the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies, Venice-Padua, 22-27 August 2022.
The Turkish Solidarity Fund was initiated after the unforeseen move of the International Byzantine Congress from Istanbul to Venice/Padua, which severely and adversely affected Turkish graduate students, who would, under normal circumstances, have been able to attend the Congress at reduced rates and without European transportation and lodging fees. It is separate from the conference funds regularly available to SPBS postgraduate researchers, and will cease to exist after the 2022 Congress.
All SPBS postgraduate members are eligible to apply for funding from the development fund. There has never been a requirement for SPBS members to live in the UK, and we indeed have members from many countries. Byzantinists working or studying in ODA countries are now eligible to become members of the SPBS at reduced rates. Because bank transfers fees are often large and non-negotiable, the SPBS will forgive membership fees for those who do not have access to PayPal or similar. We would, however, ask scholars in that position to fill in the appropriate membership form, and we will simply deduct the membership fee from any award granted to the member.
The fund can offer grants of up to £400 to help meet the costs of registration, accommodation, and travel. Applicants must be members of the SPBS but are eligible for a reduced membership rate of £5.00 (₺104 approx.).
The deadline for applications is Monday 27th June at 17:00 (London). Successful applicants will be notified by 29th June 2022.
